Practice Club
To help your child practice violin:
Included in tuition for all my current weekly private violin students, or a small fee for those not studying privately with me at the moment.
Sign up for my google classroom, or a new virtual classroom I am currently testing! I will give assignments to violin students and they will create a video in response. Once they submit their best take, I will review and give feedback.
Making videos of oneself and then self-critiquing is one of the best ways to improve quickly and avoid solidifying bad habits. This also helps young learners develop self-confidence and a sense of their unique sound. In takes them out of the more passive “student mode” and gives them the authority of being their own teacher. Classical violin training requires precise attention to detail and being able to follow the teacher’s instructions, but a side effect is that students can feel dis-empowered. This self-driven learning process will hopefully help students achieve the desired goals while maintaining their sense of ownership over their playing.
For students who don’t have much time and are not taking weekly private lessons, this is a great way to maintain a connection to their instrument and keep this kind of discipline in their life.
For those who are already taking private lessons..
but want some extra incentive and help practicing, this can be a great way to get the most out of those lessons, whether you are studying with me or another teacher. I am quite open-minded about specific techniques, as long as they are working for the student and approved by the primary teacher. (Though I will always point out excess tension and any playing position that may lead to future injury if not corrected.)
For beginners..
this program is for those also attending Beginner’s Quartet classes, or my Camerata Violin Class. Parents can help get the most out of group lessons by taking initiative and guiding the practice time, and I will help you as much as I can! You can also try extra zoom lessons, whenever needed.
To help google classroom function easily..
we can keep the videos short, or use google drive to upload them to submit to the teacher. They will be kept private, unless the student would like to share them with other students, and turn them into a virtual masterclass to help inspire other students and give them ideas.
